Your Child’s 4K Experience
School Readiness & Educational Approach
Canaland’s Free 4K Program is designed to prepare children for kindergarten without rushing childhood. Our play-based model encourages curiosity, exploration, and hands-on learning while meeting early learning standards and supporting each child’s individual development.
Our students consistently demonstrate strong kindergarten readiness, and our program meets and exceeds expectations for early childhood education quality.
Support Services & Individualized Needs
Canaland remains fully committed to supporting children with individualized needs. We partner with outside professionals to support IEPs, therapy services, and additional interventions as needed.
These services are provided at no cost to families, and each child is supported in a way that honors their unique strengths and needs.
Who is my child’s teacher?
Mrs. Missy Kessel - 4K Lead Teacher
Mrs. Missy Kessel has been teaching over 30 years and has an array of experiences. She is a graduate of UW-Stevens Point. Mrs. Kessel loves children and loves to watch them grow and learn. You’ll see a markable difference in the development and skills learned from the time your student enters 4K to the time they graduate under Mrs. Kessel’s supervision and teaching. She’s a great listener and is also available to offer any resources available to make your experience and your child’s experience the BEST EVER!
The teaching staff with Canaland's 4K Program are Department of Public Instruction Certified teachers. 4K Teachers are also qualified through the state of Wisconsin's Department of Children and Families.

About the Get Kids Ready Partnership (Starting Fall 2026)
Beginning in Fall 2026, Canaland will participate in the Department of Children and Families Get Kids Ready program, a state-funded initiative that provides free school readiness instruction for 4-year-olds in child care settings.
Through this partnership, Canaland:
Uses curriculum aligned with the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards
Provides 437 hours of school readiness instruction per year
Employs lead teachers with an associate or bachelor’s degree
Meets state standards for health, safety, and child well-being
State funding allows the instructional portion of the day to remain free for families, while children continue learning in a familiar, nurturing environment.

4K Wrap Around Care
Canaland offers optional wrap around care (at a reduced rate) to support working families who need before and after 4K care. Wrap around care is available Monday through Friday.
Before care is available from 7:00–8:30am, and includes a free breakfast.
After care runs from 11:40am–5:30pm and includes a nutritional lunch, rest or nap time, an afternoon snack, and plenty of time for play. Children enjoy less structured activities, outdoor time when weather allows, and large motor play in our spacious indoor auditorium, especially helpful during colder months.
